Running into the Sea
The highlight of the race is a run into the sea on the Dead Sea Works border embankment that surrounds the southern part of the Dead Sea. Only once a year are security permits granted to climb the embankment, and runners are treated to breathtaking views that have so far been reserved only for Dead Sea Works employees or security forces.
The embankment serves as the border area between the Israeli Dead Sea and the Jordanian Dead Sea and acts as a barrier without a fence between the countries that maintain A shared and peaceful daily routine between the two sides. The course is mostly on a compacted and flat kurkar area. The event will be secured by security forces – police and army.
Ein Gedi Race
The Dead Sea Land Marathon grows from the foundations of the veteran Ein Gedi Race, which for over 30 years has hosted tens of thousands of runners and has been an anchor point in the annual race calendar of amateurs and professionals from all over the country who have become addicted to the magical and quiet landscape. As a continuation of the commemorative project, a half marathon at the event will be held in memory of Tomer and Giora Ron, sons of Kibbutz Ein Gedi.
The race is being held at the initiative of the Tamar Regional Council, with the assistance and support of the Dead Sea Enterprises (ICL), the Ministry of Tourism and its implementing arm – the Governmental Company for the Defense of the Dead Sea and the Dead Sea Drainage Authority
